Ryan Grossman is from Saxonburg, Pa., and is currently a freshman at Waynesburg University, double majoring in Public Relations and Sports Information. Grossman knew one thing when it came to deciding what he wanted to do with his life: his goal is to combine his love of sports with a career that he would love equally as much. After meeting the chair of the Department of Communication during his junior year at Knoch High School, Grossman knew that Waynesburg University would be the perfect place to continue his education.
“I met Professor Krause my junior year of high school. He told me all about the Department of Communication at Waynesburg and I was immediately hooked,” said Grossman.
Grossman is getting his feet wet; he joined Waynesburg University’s Chapter of PRSSA right away, and immediately began taking part in Red Brick Communications, Waynesburg’s student-run firm. Though he has not seen all that PRSSA has to offer on campus, Grossman says that his favorite activity so far was working the PRSSA table at JacketFest before the Homecoming game. Grossman plans to get a great deal out of PRSSA and hopes to take advantage of all that it has to offer him.
“I want to gain a lot of knowledge and experience, and also network with real world public relations professionals,” said Grossman.
Grossman also has immediate plans to take advantage of PRSSA opportunities; he plans to run for Executive Board for next year. Grossman is not set on a position yet, but he is eager to sink his teeth in and get started.
Though Grossman is only a freshman, he has thought a lot about where he wants public relations to take him career wise.
“I hope to work for a professional sports team, preferably the Pittsburgh Pirates,” said Grossman.
Grossman came into his college career with a quote from hockey legend Wayne Gretzky to keep him motivated: “You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.”
