2016 PRSSA National Conference Session Recap: A Conversation With Warner Brother Television Publicity

Session: A Conversation with Warner Brothers Television Publicity

Presenter: Jeff Tobler, Lisa Mitchell and Brian Carrillo – Warner Bros. Television

Recap: In a ballroom with more than 300 seats, three publicists from Warner Brothers Television captivated a standing room only audience. Each shared his or her path to television publicity, and each presenter had a different tale of how they landed in such a successful position. Tobler encouraged the audience with the revelation that “while public relations is all about who you know, we all had experiences of getting into this without really knowing anyone.” The three publicists, while hinting at some exciting developments in fan-favorite television shows, shared tips on how to be an impressive communication student and intern.

Key takeaways:

  1. When it comes to a professor, internship supervisor or boss, follow up, find an angle, give personal updates and ask for theirs
  2. Your efforts to stay in touch might not work out in one year or five years, but it might in ten years
  3. Remember that while college is a great foundation, with any job you walk into, there is always a huge learning curve
  4. Never underestimate the importance of a mentor
