2016 PRSSA National Conference Session Recap: The Courage To Be Authentic

Session: The Courage to be Authentic

Presenter: David Grossman, ABC, APR, Fellow PRSA, Founder and CEO, The Grossman Group

Recap: During this session, David Grossman spoke about respectful authenticity. This concept means always being truthful to yourself; Grossman says that doing so will also make you a better communicator. He explained that knowing who your true self is and sticking to your own beliefs is incredibly important in the field of public relations. With the truth, self-awareness and staying true to yourself, as a public relations practitioner, you will go far and become a great communicator.

Key takeaways:

  1. Have quiet courage – we all have more courage than we think
  2. Know yourself and be yourself
  3. Have curiosity and ask questions
  4. Take a look in the mirror and find out what matters to you
  5. Sometimes it is necessary to take a step back and get a new perspective
