Celebrities: The masterminds in PR

I constantly hear what celebrities are up to in today’s world, especially as a twenty-year-old in college. Who is having a baby, who broke up with who, who got engaged, who out of nowhere released a new song? Looking into all this news, I can’t help but wonder if there is a reason why celebrities operate the way they do with the media.

My first thought is if they have an entire team of people helping them strategically make their next move. That sounds insane though, doesn’t it? Maybe, in reality, these celebrities are just good at holding the attention of people. Maybe all these celebrities are actually experts in PR, and we could all learn something from them. These celebrities might just be PR masterminds that are right under our noses.

Let’s look into what different celebrities have done to take the world by storm.

Taylor Swift

At this point, I’m pretty sure most of us are aware that Miss. Swift has been re-releasing all her old albums. With this, Swift has almost been playing games with what album will come out next. Her fans have made so many theories as to what could be next. They will look at the smallest of details to find a hint.

This is a great PR move on Swift’s part because this means all of her posts on any platform will get fan interaction. And when she finally releases which album is next, her fans get so excited and share it on every platform. So she is naturally getting free advertising.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner is currently one of the most followed women on Instagram. There has to be a reason for this. She does many things with her career. She is a TV personality, a model, an author, she has her own beauty brand and a line of skincare and haircare just for babies. This woman is doing a lot, including being a mother of one and about to be two.

Kylie being a mother is an excellent resource for her to pull from because this means she has something in common with other women in this world. Her being a mother makes her feel more human. I think it was super smart of her to make a line of products for babies. Who else would you trust to create products for your baby other than another mother?

Currently, Kylie is expecting her second child. Meaning her fans are obsessed with figuring out what they can about this new baby. People had theories about her being pregnant before she even released it. On January 14, Kylie posted a picture from her baby shower; people were trying to guess the new child’s name from these pictures. I’m bringing this up because I’m curious if this baby shower was in some way a PR stunt to get people thinking and talking about this new baby again. Maybe the secret that these celebrities know is to keep people guessing. Then once they release their news, everyone is excited to hear about it.

MGK and Megan Fox

MGK and Megan Fox have been in the eye of the public quite frequently over the past few months. It seems to me that everyone has been talking about the couple. Why is this particular couple so popular in the media? What are they doing differently than others?

They seem to be so into each other, from the mentions of drinking each other’s blood, kissing on the red carpet, and being chained together by the nail. They seem to have this affection towards each other that almost feels like too much. But is that what people like about them? Do people like that they have this eccentric attraction for each other?

I can’t help but wonder if the affection between the two is as strong as they play it up to be. Their relationship could just be a big PR stunt to make the couple popular in the media. If this is the case, it is a fantastic PR play. The couple acts slightly deviant, and the press runs to make a story on the two.

Celebrities nowadays know how to capture the attention of the public and their fans; it is something we PR professionals can learn from. We can learn how to capture the public’s attention to invest in our company.
